Not THAT Far Into the Future

August 1, 2019 by Christopher J Wesley Leave a Comment

Not THAT Far Into the Future is my explanation as to just what the hell it is that I’m doing with writing the remaining chapters of my book.

There’ s new tech in the remaining chapters that wasn’t there in the first fourteen. How am I making this work? Watch the video to find out.

New here?

If so, in 2015 I published The Gospel of Wolves, Episode One, the first of what was supposed to be a series of books broken up into episodes like a literary Netflix series.

Well, it didn’t work out like that, now I’m sharing my journey as I wrap up the writing of the book so that I can continue with a series that will look a lot more like A Game of Thrones, as in, full novels that will carry a complete storyline, but will have longer story arcs that carry across multiple novels.

Where Do You Belong?

May 1, 2019 by Christopher J Wesley Leave a Comment

The best thing you can do for yourself is to find your tribe.

To connect with like-minded people who are going to lift you up when appropriate and put you in your place when it’s needed.

To do that though, you have to know who you are outside of everyone else’s expectations.

That means alone time. To marinate in your feelings, your thoughts and your beliefs. To understand where they all come from at least to some degree.

In time, you’ll begin to see the layers that shape you.

It isn’t easy, I know. As a matter of fact, sometimes its the most uncomfortable feeling in the world.

But in it is a richness and an ability to not only re-frame, but also to redefine your life by curating who you spend your time with and where that time is spent.

I know that I can’t keep up this pace forever.

So I’m managing my energy and time to transition to place where I don’t need a fourteen to eighteen hour day to get pages in on my novel or to plan, shoot and create my next fine art collection.

To get there, I’ll be spending fourteen to eighteen hour days, but there’s a plan in place and I’m hiring people who can help me get there because that’s where I belong.

My books and the art aren’t just for making a living, they’re there as a proof that we don’t have to be defined by the childhood that haunts us or the environment we inherited.

I’ve known that from the moment I first picked up a guitar at the age of fourteen. It was always about something bigger and more meaningful.

But I had to know myself to see that.

I hope that you know yourself well enough to know where you belong as well and if you feel comfortable, share in the comments.

Once Upon a Time

April 22, 2019 by Christopher J Wesley Leave a Comment

Your story gets to start today if you need it to.

If your happier ever after hasn’t begun yet, you don’t have to wait for the new year, the new moon, or the new month. You don’t even have to wait for the new day.

Just. Start. Now.

This very second and begin writing the story you want to live in.

You don’t have to go big yet.

Just get that small win. You can build to the big stuff later.

All you need to do for today is end it knowing that you’ve set off on this new adventure you get to live and it’s the one that you chose.

Now That I Have What I Need

April 21, 2019 by Christopher J Wesley Leave a Comment

When I decided back as a teenager that I was going to be a rock star lead guitarist, beneath the obvious perks and attractions  was the idea that it would make it easier to build the kind of relationships I was looking for.

The fact that I didn’t gain that rockstar status but still managed to build the relationships I was looking for is one of those examples of getting what I need rather than what I wanted.

Today, I’ve spent 45 unplanned minutes writing on my next book and delivered art to the Alkebulan Cultural Center for next week’s art reception, so it hasn’t been a day off per se.

But along with the work, has been a some time spent just acknowledging how far I’ve come and how much I’ve turned the life around for a kid who radiated major depression by the age of eight.

Stop to Smell the Roses, Even if Your Roses Don’t Look Life Mine

April 19, 2019 by Christopher J Wesley Leave a Comment

What serves as a version of roses to you?

I heard an interesting perspective yesterday about hobbies listening to an @garyvee podcast. That for some, business is there hobby. It just so happens that their hobby makes their livelihood.

A completely different take on the notion of ‘workaholic.

Yes, I think it’s possible to work yourself too hard, but I think we as individuals need enough self-awareness to differentiate when we can keep going and when it’s best to put the brakes on.

So I encourage you today to take a moment and revel in your version of something that makes you happy.

It may look like the commonly accepted version of fun and relaxation.

If you’re like me, it will look like you’re working too hard.

Either way is okay and don’t let anyone tell you different.

As for me, I hired a veteran storyteller to keep me on track with my next book and I have pages that I’m excited to write.

It looks like work from the outside, but inside I am loving every second of it. Even when the story fights with me.

What do your roses smell like?
