If you’ve known me for any length of time, you’re probably already aware that I’m not fond of resolutions. I don’t judge those that make them, I simply accept my limitations in how seriously I’ll follow through with them and don’t waste my time.
I do, however allow myself a theme for the new year. A kind of call to action on something I want to focus on for the coming year with 2015 being the year I got out of my own way. Not the easiest thing when you have a boatload of self-destructive tendencies always vying for control.
I did manage to do well enough in that area to put that one to rest and to make 2016 the year of play for me.
Unofficially, it’s the year I live up to my potential, but the foundation of that theme is still built on play and toying with the possibilities I see before me without getting all pouty serious and sucking the joy out of being an artist.
To help me make a few things happen that I want to do that are above my current abilities, I’ve taken on an artistic mentor for the next six months. (I said I’m not becoming pouty serious. I never said I wasn’t serious.)
If you’ve been following my recent posts on Instagram or Facebook, she’s the one supplying the prompts I’ve been using for the #selfportraitureasmedicine 10 day challenge.
Anyhow, enough about me for now.
How about you?
Do you do resolutions or themes?
If so, what are you looking forward to this year?
